Every question I have ever been asked, is answered within this website.
Please do not call me. I use email to track inquiries and who has been waiting the longest. If you call me or text me, your conversation will not be in my email inbox when it’s time to pick someone for a puppy and you will be overlooked. It is also important to have all discussions and negotiations in writing to refer back to when someone forgets or mis-remembers what was said. It’s difficult prove what was said, or not said, if it is not in writing.
Nothing we discuss outside email is binding and likely won’t even be remembered. I sometimes talk to as many as 10 potential clients in a day, by the end of the day, I will not remember you or what we discussed. I prefer sending pictures through text but I cannot have people blowing up my phone with texts while I’m working, so email is the best form of communication for that reason as well.
The ultimate goal in placement, is to create an everlasting, lifelong bond between my puppy and their new owners, so proper screening is paramount. When emailing, please inquire with a proper introduction and summary of your environment and lifestyle. I will want to know what you are looking for in a puppy and what the puppy’s prospective life would be like with you. This will help me guide you toward the puppy best suited for your lifestyle. Calm and quiet puppies should go to calm and quiet homes and hyper and active puppies are better suited for lively and active homes.
My puppies are only available to approved homes and are placed through a process of elemination, where throughout their growth they are regularly evaluated. The first puppies to be placed are the ones with disqualifying traits and next are the puppies who develope traits I do not want to continue in my breeding program. The last puppies to be placed are the best of the litter and often have training and show experience and are between 6-12 months old.
While backyard breeders are only selling a commodity, reputable breeders put much more time, energy and money into our breeding programs and we have very specific ideas of what kind of homes we want for our puppies. Therefore it is important that you impress upon us, why you should be considered for one of our puppies. Please include a brief description of yourself, your family, your lifestyle and your plans for your new puppy. It is my responsibility to avoid putting puppies in a home that is not right for their temperament, activity level and personality, to avoid having the puppy returned due to being mismatched. Puppies are not a ‘one size fits all’ appliance.
‘Pet breeders’ or backyard breeders charge the same prices as show breeders and sometimes even do all the testing except testing for quality. Show breeders do all the testing in addition to testing for quality in the parents, to insure that your pup grows up to actually look like it’s expected to. It makes sense to hold out for the better quality at the same price.
I don’t sell them to random people who don’t care what kind of breeder they come from or that their personality and temperament is a good fit for your lifestyle. You are the only one who can convince me that you are a good home and your inquiry is the best opportunity for that. You only have one chance to make a good impression.
If you don’t know how to construct an appropriate inquiry, please read this article before sending your inquiry: https://rufflyspeaking.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/puppy-buyer-ettiquette/
